Professor Syed Shah from Al Jamia Al Zahra in Halifax believes Muslims in Britain should be proud as citizens and uphold traditional British values.

Professor Shah added that singing the national anthem would bring communities together and help remove barriers.

I am in favour of this. Our prophet said that wherever you live, always pray for your rulers. If they are just rulers then you must pray for them that God blesses them with good health and gives them divine strength to do good things.

A motion relating to anthem in schools which has been put forward by a councillor from Brighouse is to be discussed by Calderdale Council.
