Calderdale council have rejected a motion calling for every school to fly the Union flag and sing God Save The Queen in school assemblies.

The Assistant Head at Parkinson Lane Primary School in Halifax says being patriotic isn't just about singing the national anthem.
Paramjit Khangura was speaking to ITV Calendar on the day Calderdale Council discusses a motion calling for children to sing the national anthem in school assemblies.
Parkinson Lane, which has pupils from a range of backgrounds proudly displays the Union Jack among flags of other countries.
The children believe that 'the world is full of different countries' and don't think singing God Save the Queen every morning would make them any more patriotic.
