The Queen guitarist Brian May and Downton Abbey actor Peter Egan are calling on the Government to block plans for a beagle breeding facility, which would supply dogs for medical experiments.
An application from B & K Universal to expand its centre in East Yorkshire has twice been turned down by local planners. One appeal to the Secretary of State has also been rejected, but a ruling on a second appeal is due next week.
The company says animal testing is a small, but vital part, of medical research.
