Former Premier League footballer Clarke Carlisle is now awake in hospital, nearly a month after he was seriously injured in a collision with a lorry.
The family of former Leeds United and York City defender Clarke Carlisle has revealed he is now in a stable condition in hospital but faces "a long road to a full recovery." The ex-chairman of the Professional Footballers' Association suffered serious injuries when, as a pedestrian, he was involved in a collision with a lorry on the A64 near York on December 22.
It later emerged that just days before the crash he had been charged with a drink driving offence by the Metropolitan Police.
Tonight his family issued a statement through the PFA:
"Our family and especially Clarke, would like to thank each and every person for their unbelievable support at this very difficult time. The fantastic and expert attention of all of the staff at Leeds General infirmary has brought him from a critical condition to a stable and relatively comfortable one. However, this will be a long road to full recovery and the family would request that you respect our privacy at this time."
At around 11pm on Friday night police were called to Darley Avenue in Athersley to reports that a man had been stabbed.
This Evening and Tonight: Showers or longer spells of rain are forecast through the evening and night.
For the second day running there were no deaths of people who tested positive for coronavirus in Scotland.
