The far-right English Defence League have staged a demonstration in Rotherham town centre in protest at the chid sex abuse scandal. A counter demonstration by United Against Fascism will be held at the same time.The cost of policing the protests was in excess of £1m, South Yorkshire police have revealed.
South Yorkshire Police revealed today that the cost of policing protest rallies in the town is expected to rise above a million pounds. Seven people were arrested as 1,000 members of the EDL marched in response to the town's child abuse scandal. Rotherham MP Sarah Champion says policing such events should be nationally funded.
At around 11pm on Friday night police were called to Darley Avenue in Athersley to reports that a man had been stabbed.
