Two found not guilty of prison murder

Two men have been found not guilty of the murder of 22-year-old Michael Hennessy in HMP Lindholme.

Following a three-week trial at Sheffield Crown Court, the jury found Julian Maylor, 24, of HMP Moorland, not guilty of murder.

Reiss Comrie, 24, of HMP Moorland, was charged with murder, wounding and three counts of giving a list A article to a prisoner. The jury found him not guilty on all charges.

South Yorkshire Police were called to HMP Lindholme in December last year following the death of Mr Hennessy in J wing.

Detective Inspector Jade Brice, leading the investigation, said the case had been 'incredibly challenging' for police investigators, due to the fact that the crimes occurred within the prison establishment.

Maylor will be returned to prison. Comrie has served his sentence and has been released.

My team has conducted a thorough investigation, which culminated in the verdicts today. I would like to thank Michael Hennessy's family for their conduct during the investigation and the trial. They have always carried themselves with dignity, which I know has been very difficult for them whilst listening to graphic evidence during the course of the trial. I am also grateful to the Governors at HMP Lindholme for their co-operation and assistance throughout the investigation and the trial.
