Police issue safety warning for Stage 2 of Le Tour

North Yorkshire Police have warned Tour de France spectators to stay safe as the famous race passes through the region for a second day.

Two people were airlifted to hospital yesterday in separate incidents and officers say they are keen to see the Tour pass without any further injuries.

Safety remains a top priority for the police and everybody involved in organising the event, so please stay off the routes when the caravan and peloton are passing through. Your safety matters to us. Let's make Yorkshire proud again today.

Swiss rider Fabian Cancellara echoed the sentiment with a warning of his own:

Huge crowds are amazing for us bike riders but let's try to keep it safe for everyone and make more space and make a steep back on the road. Fans should stand 1 meter back on the road when we pass with 50km/h.
