Sheffield shooting a "targeted attack"

Detectives investigating the murder of a 23-year-old man found shot in Sheffield yesterday morning say it was an isolated incident.

They added the shooting, near Queen Mary Road, Manor, was thought to be a targeted attack.

Extra officers are patrolling the area. The victim was found with gunshot wounds and was taken to hospital where he died a short time later.

"Although we are in the very early stages of this investigation and are very much keeping an open mind as to the circumstances, we do believe that this was a targeted attack and that members of the public should not be unduly alarmed.

"I would also like to appeal to the community for information. If anyone knows something about this tragic incident, however apparently insignificant that information is, I would urge them to call South Yorkshire Police immediately on 101.

"Let us be the judge of how significant the information you hold is."

– District Commander for Sheffield Chief Superintendent David Hartley

Anyone with information should call 101, quoting incident number 166 of 21 June 2014. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
