A man who died when his car was struck by a passenger train at a crossing on the Scarborough to York line has been named as 77-year-old Eric Ireland.

A pensioner who died after the car he was in was hit by a train on a level crossing in North Yorkshire is expected to be named today. The crash happened at the Ivy Lea level crossing at Rillington near Malton yesterday morning.
Investigation work to establish how the car came to be on the crossing as the train approached will also continue.
At around 11pm on Friday night police were called to Darley Avenue in Athersley to reports that a man had been stabbed.
