Work on a flood defence scheme in Pickering will begin today, 6 years after the town was hit by severe flash flooding.

A storage reservoir near Pickering Beck will hold flood water, complementing existing measures such as natural dams and the planting of trees.

The project aims to slow the flow of water running into the town which lies at the foot of the North York Moors.
