Police reassure EDL rally will be monitored

Police have released the following statement about the planned English Defence League rally in Hull today.

Road users in Hull may experience some delays due to a planned protest march by the English Defence League (EDL) which is scheduled to take place in the city centre.

There will be a policing operation in place to ensure minimal disruption to the public and whilst there are no full road closures planned it is anticipated the movement of traffic in the area of Ferensway and Spring Bank may be affected for a short time.

The march is due to be held in the early afternoon and it is hoped those living, working and visiting the area will not be overly affected although members of the public are asked to bear with us as officers work to ensure the march passes safely through the city.

Uniform police officers will be present in the area to facilitate a peaceful march and demonstration and ensure there is a safe environment both for those engaged in peaceful protesting and the wider public.
