New figures show people wanting to adopt dogs have dropped in our region by 6% since last year.
Animal charities say the situation is becoming critical in many kennels with problems re-homing dogs. And some dogs like Biff are proving extra hard to re-home because of his breed.
Other reasons are adding to the problems too though with older dogs and very active dogs finding it hard to get new owners.
But as national dog adoption month kicks off its supporters say there is some hope for dogs like Biff.
Ryan O'Meara from Canine Magazine said: "Last dog adoption month we saw an increase of 227%. Now anything even getting close to that would be fantastic."
At around 11pm on Friday night police were called to Darley Avenue in Athersley to reports that a man had been stabbed.
