A two year old girl was seriously injured when a pet Rottweiller attacked her in Rawmarsh, Rotherham
A toddler is being treated in hospital after being bitten by a Rottweiler dog in Rotherham.
Police have started an investigation into what happened in Rawmarsh this morning.
The two-year-old girl, whose identity is not being disclosed at this stage, has serious injuries to her head and leg.
She was initially taken to Rotherham District General Hospital and has since been transferred to Sheffield Children's Hospital.
The dog involved is believed to be a family pet. It was on a lead at the time of the incident and was in the company of the two year old girl and an adult female relative.
The dog has been taken to a secure kennel facility whilst police enquiries continue into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The girl's condition has this evening been described as stable and not life-threatening.
At around 11pm on Friday night police were called to Darley Avenue in Athersley to reports that a man had been stabbed.
