York councillors appeal to keep railway museum

The leaders of all parties on York City Council have written to the Culture Secretary to plead their case to secure the future of the city's National Railway Museum.

It is one of three museums, including Bradford's media museum, which are under threat of closure if government cuts to their budget are confirmed.

Through its cultural, heritage and educational strengths, the NRM represents and reflects York in the most appropriate way. Its contribution to the city’s cultural life is well established. Having been the home of the modern railway in Britain, the city remains a major centre for the rail industry, including train operators, infrastructure providers and advanced manufacturing/ engineering for the railway sector.
