Plans to close Maltby Colliery
The owners of Maltby Colliery, which has been producing coal for more than 100 years, say it is no longer viable on health and safety, geological and financial grounds.
Colliery set to close amid safety fears
Deep coal mining could come to an end at Maltby Colliery near Rotherham putting more than 500 jobs at risk. Hargreaves Services which runs the pit says it no longer makes business sense because the mine is too expensive to run safely.
