NEETS: facts and figures

  • A Neet costs around £56,000 in public finance and £104,000 in resource costs over the lifetime of a person who was a Neet between the age of 16-18
  • In Yorkshire and the Humber there are an estimated 7,110 Neets, 6.1% of the 16-17 year old population
  • The Youth Contract will provide over £1 billion of funding over the next three years.
  • 250,000 work experience placements will be created over the next three years.
  • 20,000 incentive payments worth £1500 will be given to employers to take on youngsters as apprentices.
