NEETS scheme launched by Deputy PM
Nick Clegg has announced an initiative to help youngsters not in education, employment or training.
NEETS: facts and figures
- A Neet costs around £56,000 in public finance and £104,000 in resource costs over the lifetime of a person who was a Neet between the age of 16-18
- In Yorkshire and the Humber there are an estimated 7,110 Neets, 6.1% of the 16-17 year old population
- The Youth Contract will provide over £1 billion of funding over the next three years.
- 250,000 work experience placements will be created over the next three years.
- 20,000 incentive payments worth £1500 will be given to employers to take on youngsters as apprentices.
