Rape victim "named"

North Wales Police are investigating reports that the woman raped by footballer Ched Evans has been named and abused on a social networking site. Evans was jailed for five years after a jury heard the victim was "too drunk" to consent to sex.

Police will prosecute over rape victim identity

North Wales police say they’ll pursue people who are posting the identity of the 20 year old woman at the centre of the Ched Evans rape case.

People overturning the anonymity rule granted to rape victims ‘will be dealt with robustly and the offenders brought to justice. We find this to be profoundly disturbing and are determined to seek out those responsible. It’s a fundamental rule that rape victims are not identified in print – or that details aren’t given out which means that people can begin to piece together their identity.

He added that people posting on social media should be conscious of the trauma the woman at the centre of the case has suffered.Welsh international footballer Evans was sentenced to five years on a charge of rape on Friday at Caernarfon Crown Court.
