Homeowners affected by HS2 route guaranteed a 'comparable home'

The Transport Secretary says people in South Yorkshire whose homes will be bulldozed to make way for the HS2 rail line will be guaranteed a 'comparable home.'

The Government says 16 houses on the Shimmer estate in Mexborough will be knocked down.

Chris Grayling spoke in the Commons last night to respond to concerns raised by people living in the area.

HS2 to follow 'eastern' route through South Yorkshire

Campaigners have reacted angrily after the Government announced the route for HS2, which will force the demolition of newly-built housing estate in South Yorkshire.

"The route in South Yorkshire will be the route consulted in 2016 which in part follows the M1 and M18, serves Sheffield City Centre via a spur from the HS2 line and includes provision for a northern junction allowing trains to run between Sheffield and Leeds city centres using HS2."

A family of farming brothers say they will see their homes destroyed and business disrupted if the new High Speed 2 rail line goes ahead as expected.

It's thought the Government will confirm later that the route will go straight through the Schofield brother's land in Mexborough.

Those affected by HS2 route need to be 'properly compensated'

An announcement on the HS2 route is due at 3.30pm. Transport Secretary Chris Grayling says those people who are going to be affected by the HS2 route need to be 'properly compensated' and 'properly looked after'.
