IS claim responsibility for Westminster terror attack

So-called Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the Westminster terror attack which left four dead, including a police officer and the assailant.

Here is what we know so far:

  • Among the dead are police officer Keith Palmer and the assailant 29 people remain in hospital receiving treatment
  • Mrs May said the attacker was a British citizen who was known to police and security services
  • Eight people have been arrested and raids have taken place in London, Birmingham and elsewhere
  • The attacker, armed with two large knives, mowed down pedestrians with his car on Westminster Bridge on Wednesday afternoon
  • The knifeman was shot dead moments later by another officer
  • Tributes are being paid across the region to the victims and those affected by the attack

Vigils to take place in Leeds and Hull following Westminster terror attack

Anti-racism campaigners are set to host vigils in Yorkshire in response to the Westminster terror attack on Wednesday.

'Vigils Against Hatred and Division' will take place at venues across the country, including Downing Street, today.

People in Yorkshire are invited to attend vigils outside Hull train station at 4.30pm or at the Leeds Art Gallery at 6.30pm.

They have been organised by the Muslim Engagement and Development Community and Stand Up to Racism.

Our thoughts are with the victims and their families of the tragic attack in Westminster on Wednesday.

We express our shock, distress and solidarity with them at this terrible time.

We can not let these attacks be used by the racists to divide us.
