The people of Grimsby have turned out to say thank you to the town's football team for earning themselves a place in League Two after victory against Forest Green at Wembley on Sunday.

The Mariners were applauded as they made their way in an open-top bus through Cleethorpes and Grimsby to a civic reception at Grimsby Town Hall. James Webster reports.

Grimsby Town rejoice after return to Football League

Grimsby Town players and manager Paul Hurst have spoken of their relief after the club returned to the Football League after a six year wait.

Omar Bogle and Nathan Arnold scored the goals to seal promotion with a 3-1 win over Forest Green Rovers at Wembley in the National League play-off final.

The Mariners will return to Wembley next week to take on Halifax Town in the FA Trophy final.

Mariners fans in confident mood before play-off final
