1,000 new jobs as Siemens project is given green light

Siemens has announced its wind turbine production projects in East Yorkshire will go ahead with the creation of 1,000 new jobs.

Siemens factory to be ready in time for Hull City of Culture

MatthewChinn, Managing Director of Siemens Energy UK & Ireland, has said that green lighting the manufacturing sites in Hull and East Yorkshire will mean a regeneration for the area.

Siemens is a leader in offshore wind and the investment demonstrates our ongoing commitment to UK manufacturing and confidence in the industry. The development of local manufacturing will provide a huge boost to the UK renewables industry and will help unlock other major projects and investments

Siemens says that Green Port Hull is also a landmark moment for the Humber region, promising regeneration and the creation of many hundreds of new jobs and new skills.

The manufacturing plans will help create around 1,000 jobs - 550 at the blade factory and 450 at Green Port Hull. The factory is expected to be up and running by 2017, in time for Hull to be City of Culture.

Siemens project will "kick start'' Hull's economy

After much uncertainty and four years of promises it was finally confirmed today that almost a third of a billion pounds will be invested in Hull in new plants to make giant offshore wind turbines.

The German company Siemens which is behind the project says it hopes to kick start a whole new industry in the area. And they were backed by the Prime Minister David Cameron who flew in to take a look at the plans in person. Chris Kiddey reports..
