Yorkshire athletes compete in 2014 Winter Olympics

Leeds snowboarding star Zoe Gillings has missed out on an Olympic medal in the snowboard cross, coming ninth overall. The 28-year-old failed to qualify for the finals after finishing fourth in the semi-finals.

All eyes will be on snowboarding star Zoe Gillings from Leeds at tomorrow's Winter Olympics. The 28-year-old is appearing in her third Winter games, hoping that this will be the year she gets her hands on a medal. Mike Hall reports.

Sheffield skier, Katie Summerhayes, says she is "gutted" over missing out on a medal at the Sochi Winter Olympics.

The teenager came seventh overall, she fell on her first run in the final before scoring 70.60 in her second run:

Stephanie and Sophie Nicholls were cheering their snowboarding brother on from their home in Wakefield as he competed in the Winter Olympics. Jamie Nicholls, came 6th in the first ever slopestyle event at the games in Sochi in Russia.

Snowboarder Jamie Nicholls from Bradford who came sixth in the first-ever Olympic Winter Games slopestyle final in Russia has been talking about his performance in the competition.

"I did the best I could do. That was the best run of my life. Today is insane, the standard of riding was unreal. I was there (the medal positions) for a while but I just knew it wasn't going to be. To be in that mix was incredible."

Jamie Nicholls has missed out on a medal for Great Britain in the first ever snowboard slopestyle event at the Winter Olympics.

The Bradford athlete at one point looked set to be in line for winning bronze but a shaky second run saw him fail to better his 85.50 score first time around and he was then overtaken eventually finishing sixth.

Snowboarder Jamie Nicholls is preparing for the biggest ride of his life - tomorrow he'll be battling for Olympic glory at the Winter Games in Sotchi.

The 20-year-old first learned his sport, not in the Alps or even the snow of the Scottish mountains but on the plastic slope at the Halifax Snowsports Centre.
