Karen Matthews is thought to have been freed from prison after serving half her eight year sentence.

Karen Matthews is due to be released from Foston Hall Prison in Derbyshire following the kidnap and imprisonment of her daughter Shannon. The 36-year-old was jailed four years ago after plotting to abduct her daughter - and then claim a 50 thousand pound reward. David Hirst reports.

Karen Matthews, who was jailed for eight years for kidnapping her own daughter, is due to be released after serving four years. She's currently behind bars at Foston Hall Prison in Derbyshire.

Karen Matthews is expected to be released from Foston Hall prison in Derbyshire today after serving four years for the kidnap of her own daughter. It's believed she'll start a new life, supervised by the probation service, away from Dewsbury Moor in West Yorkshire where she lived.

Matthews fooled everyone in the community, including close friends, when she claimed her nine-year-old daughter Shannon had been kidnapped, sparking a costly police hunt. Shannon was later found drugged, but otherwise unharmed, at a house a short distance away.
