Flights travelling into Leeds Bradford Airport were diverted overnight as the cold weather continues to cause travel disruption.

Icy conditions and poor visibility meant passengers were diverted to airports across the country, including Liverpool, Birmingham and East Midlands.

Flights out of the airport are also being impacted, with several departures this morning delayed for a number of hours. Airport bosses and airlines are urging people to check before arriving at the airport.

A statement from Leeds Bradford Airport, said: "Our teams have been working overnight to clear the runway. Most of last night’s arrivals were diverted, our airline partners need to reposition aircraft and crew back to LBA before resuming today’s flight schedule.

"Disruption to today’s (Monday, 6 January) flights is expected. Please check with your airline for the latest updates and revised departure timings before traveling to LBA. Thank you for your patience and understanding."

The long stay and car rental shuttle bus is currently postponed until further notice and customers are required to walk to the terminal.

Further service updates will be provided by the airport throughout the day.

The icy weather is continuing to cause chaos on the roads.

Woodhead Pass is closed due to snow and flooding at Flouch in Derbyshire and Hazelhead in South Yorkshire.

The M1 Northbound is affected by snow at Junction 37 for Barnsley and by a broken down vehicle at Junction 35 for Rotherham.

In Lincolnshire, the A1 remains closed between the A607 near Grantham and the B1174 near Little Ponton due to flooding.

Meanwhile, train services running across the region may be cancelled or delayed.

Network Rail is using technology, such as visual and thermal imaging from helicopter and drones, to help identify issues.

The service is also working with train operators to fit snow plough attachments to the front of passenger trains and ghost trains have run overnight to keep the tracks clear of snow and ice.

Schools across the region were due to start the new term today, but some have chosen to delay the start of the day while others are still deciding whether it is safe to open.
