Boy, 17, arrested after two teenagers killed in New Year's Day crash in Hull

A teenager has been arrested after two other teenagers were killed in a car crash in East Yorkshire on New Year's Day.

A Volkswagen Golf collided with a Vauxhall Grandland on Staithes Road in the Preston area of Hull at around 1.20am on 1 January.

A 16-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man who were passengers in the Volkswagen died in the crash.

Two other passengers, a 16-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy, remain in hospital with critical and serious injuries.

A 62-year-old man who was a passenger in the Vauxhall is also in hospital with injuries that are no longer life-threatening. The driver, a 34-year-old woman, seriously injured her arm.

Two other passengers in that car suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the Volkswagen, a 17-year-old boy, has been arrested on suspicion of two counts of causing death by dangerous driving. He has been released on bail while the investigation continues.
