Two teenagers dead in New Year's Day crash on Staithes Road in Hull

Two teenagers have died and three other people are in hospital with life-threatening injuries after a collision in the early hours of New Year's Day in East Yorkshire.

Emergency services were called to Staithes Road in the Preston area of Hull to the scene of a crash between a grey Volkswagen Golf and a black Vauxhall Grandland at around 1.20am on 1 January.

A 16-year-old boy died at the scene. An 18-year-old man died a short time later in hospital. Both were passengers in the Volkswagen Golf.

Two other passengers, a teenage girl, aged 16, and teenage boy, aged 17, suffered life-threatening injuries and were taken to hospital.

The driver of the Golf suffered minor injuries.

A 62-year-old male passenger in the Vauxhall Grandland has also been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. The 34-year-old female driver suffered a serious injury to her arm. Two other passengers suffered minor injuries.

The families of those involved have been informed and are currently being supported by specialist trained officers at this extremely difficult time.

Officers are appealing for any witnesses of the crash to come forward by contacting the non-emergency number 101 and quoting log 60 of 1 January.
