Visually impaired group given behind the curtain tour of Aladdin set at York Theatre Royal

A group of visually impaired youngsters and adults have been given a special behind the scenes tour of York Theatre Royal's pantomime.

Organised with the help of the Wilberforce Trust, the group of 20 were able to enjoy a touch tour of the costumes and props before enjoying an audio-described performance of Aladdin.

Some of the tickets for the group were paid through a 'pay it forward' scheme, whereby members of the public can pay for people they have never met to enjoy the experience.

On a tour with the cast of the show, Teddy Ellerby said he enjoyed feeling the cat and elephant costumes.

His mum Rachael McIntyre said: "I think he's got a lot out of it. No matter how hard we try to explain to him what things are like you can't give him every bit of detail."

Actor Tommy Carmichael, who plays Aladdin's brother Charlie, said: "I just think it's amazing that they can get up here and experience the touch, feel and sound of everything."
