Police investigate string of arson and gun attacks in Doncaster
An investigation has been launched into a string of arson and gun attacks in Doncaster that are thought to be linked.
Trouble started at 9.40am on Friday, 20 December, when a property on Mear Close in Askern was targeted by arsonists.
A car was driven into the same property at 9.30pm that night.
There were further arson attacks on Balfour Road in Bentley and Kings Road in Askern on Friday.
On Sunday, shots were fired on Lodge Road and Hawthorne Grove, where a semi-detached house showed signs of damage. Armed police also responded to incidents at Wolsey Avenue and Manor Estate.
No one was injured in the incidents. Nine people have been arrested.
District commander Pete Thorp, of South Yorkshire Police, said: "I understand that residents will be concerned by these incidents.
"We responded immediately to the reports of firearms offences and have taken quick action to arrest a number of suspects.
"We will continue the vital work to identify those involved in this mindless violence, lock them up, and remove firearms from the community."
