American consortium COH Sports completes £105m takeover of Sheffield United
Sheffield United are under new ownership after being taken over by an American consortium in a deal thought to be worth £105million.
COH Sports - a group of entrepreneurs led by Steve Rosen and Helmy Eltoukhy - bought out Saudi royal Prince Abdullah bin Mosaad bin Abudlaziz Al Saud following negotiations that began in the summer.
The deal includes Sheffield United Women and SUFC Hotel Ltd.
In a statement, the new owners said: "We are honoured and humbled to become the new owners of this historic football club.
"We are excited to embark on this journey and our work begins today to deliver long-term success for Sheffield United over a sustained period of time."
Prince Abdullah paid £10million for a 50% stake in the Bramhall Lane club in 2013.
He later bought out co-owner Kevin McCabe's share for £5million.
United were relegated from the Premier League last season but are on course for an immediate return following 15 wins in their opening 22 games this season. They sit top of the Championship.
In a statement, Prince Abdullah said: "While the club has experienced ups and downs on the pitch in recent years, we leave the Lane knowing that the club has never been stronger than it is right now."
The new owners' statement added: "Like all Blades fans we want to see the club competing in the top-flight of English football consistently, not just on a one-off basis, and we have been encouraged by the strong start to this season.
"The team has been performing strongly and we are committed to supporting the management team to continue this progress."
