An elderly man has died after a house fire in Barnsley.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said that they were called to the bungalow on Newfield Avenue at 5.30pm on Thursday, 5 May.

They said the occupier had already passed away before crews were able to rescue him.

A spokesperson said: "Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time.

"The fire investigation has now completed and the cause of the fire was accidental."
