Man who suffers from paranoid schizophrenia admits stabbing his own mother to death
A man who suffers from paranoid schizophrenia has admitted stabbing his own mother to death.
Agita Geslere, 61, was found seriously injured at a property on Brierfield Close in Barnsley, shortly after midnight on 25 May.
She was taken to hospital where she died a short time later. A post-mortem examination revealed she died as a result of multiple stab wounds.
Her son, Renars Geslers, was charged with murder, which he denied during a previous appearance at Sheffield Crown Court in October.
He has now admitted to manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility, a plea accepted by the Crown Prosecution Service following medical reports which revealed Gelsers suffered from paranoid schizophrenia.
Geslers, 31, of Hoyle Mill Road, Barnsley, will be sentenced on 28 January next year.
The killing of Ms Geslere, a mother and grandmother, sent shockwaves through the Barnsley community at the time.
One neighbour, who did not want to be named, said: "She was so lovely. We were only neighbours for a short amount of time but whenever I saw her she would smile at me.
"She was a quiet lady but was always kind to me. My heartfelt condolences go out to her family."
