Strike on East Midlands Railway suspended

A planned strike by conductors and train managers on East Midlands Railway has been suspended to allow for talks on new union proposals.

Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT) were due to take action today and Saturday over safety, pay and conditions.

The strike had threatened to disrupt travel to the Lincoln Christmas Market that started yesterday.

In a communication to its members, the union said:

"Your union has constantly been trying to resolve this dispute and we are currently preparing proposals to be put to the company, which we believe will allow for a resolution to be found.

"Therefore, the industrial action is suspended.

"Members are instructed to work normally, and you should book on for your shifts as normal.

"This is to allow further talks to take place.

"However, the union will set out further strike dates for later this month, which will be communicated to members in good time.
