Sheffield's first African-Carribbean Market opens as part of Black History Month

Sheffield's first African-Caribbean Market has opened as part of the city's Black History Month celebrations.

From fashion and jewellery to street food and shopping, the stalls are all run by people of African-Caribbean heritage.

The event has been split into two parts. At Fargate people can see live performances including poetry, African drumming and singing.

Inside the Moor Market there is an art exhibition, a black archive space with pictures, books and artefacts and a human library where you can book in to hear stories from some of the Windrush generation.

There is also a recreation of a Caribbean front room with props from 1950s and 1960s Caribbean homes. Two plays are also being performed on life as a Jamaican in Britain from that era over the course of the week.

Organisers hope that the event will become an annual fixture in the city's calendar.
