Lincoln care home's plea for pen pals proves popular

Residents at a care home in Lincoln have been inundated with letters and gifts after staff put out a plea for pen pals on social media.

A post on the Facebook page of The Haven Residential Home in Metheringham last Friday showed residents holding up pieces of paper to reveal their interests and asking for people to write to them.

The post went viral. It was shared more than 43,000 times and nearly 6,000 people from around the world including the US and New Zealand commented that they would write in.

Staff say they have been "overwhelmed" with the response adding: "We have had thousands of comments and messages and we just simply can't keep up."
