Global goal set for annual Jo Cox Way bike ride
People around the world are being urged to get on this bikes later this month for a very special bike ride in memory of murdered Yokshire MP Jo Cox.
The fifth annual Jo Cox Way bike ride from West Yorkshire to London has been cancelled this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
However organisers have set a target of 25,000 miles, the distance needed to circumnavigate the world, and want anyone interested to pledge their miles.
The challenge replaces the five-day ride in memory of Jo, who was killed outside her constituency surgery in Birstall in June 2016.
People will be asked to pledge their cycling miles from rides taking place on any days between Wednesday 22 to Sunday 26 July, the dates of this year’s Jo Cox Way.
Those wishing to take part should visit the event’s Strava group, strava.com/clubs/thejocoxway, Facebook page, facebook.com/thejocoxway/, or the Jo Cox Way website, thejocoxway.org.uk.
In addition, those who would like the opportunity to raise money to support the work of the Jo Cox Foundation are welcome to do so. A fundraising page can be found at virginmoneygiving.com/fund/jocoxway2020.
Jo Cox Way cotton T-shirts are available for anyone who would like to flag up their support. They cost £10, including P&P, and can be ordered by emailing thejocoxway@gmail.com. Available in sizes small, medium, large, extra-large and extra-large youths.
