Police are trying to identify suspects who jumped from a moving HGV lorry on the motorway in North Yorkshire.

At around 1.20am on Friday 3 July, police tried to stop a Mercedes-Benz Axor HGV as it travelled along the A1 north of Leeming Bar, because they thought it looked suspicious.

The vehicle failed to stop for police and less than a minute later, five people dressed in black jumped out of the lorry while it was still travelling in the second lane.

It then left the road and came to a stop on the grass verge.

The suspects ran off across the road into fields towards Little Fencote. Extensive searches were carried out by police dogs and a helicopter, but officers could not locate them.

The HGV has been recovered and seized for forensic examination.
