Asda factory workers test positive for Coronavirus

All those affected were employed on one particular shift

The Leeds-based supermarket giant Asda has confirmed that 17 workers at a food factory in Normanton have tested positive for Coronavirus.

The company says it represents just one per cent of the total workforce at the Forza Food Ltd site and almost all were employed on one particular shift.

Three hundred staff are being offered testing as a precautionary measure and are now self-isolating at home. Asda says they will only return to work when it is 'safe to do so'

Wakefield Council said swift action had been taken to prevent any further spread and it was working with the business, Public Health England and the HSE to help limit any further potential spread.

Meanwhile a factory in Batley has been forced to close after eight staff members tested positive for coronavirus.

Dura Beds has closed its doors for two weeks following the outbreak as a safety precaution - and all 107 staff will be offered tests. It's the second localised outbreak in Kirklees in 13 days, following the outbreak at the Kober meat factory near Cleckheaton.
