Man who cost a young boy his leg after a motorbike crash in Hull has been jailed for three years

Jerome Cawkwell, who cost a young boy his leg after a motorbike crash in a Hull park, has been jailed for three years and has also been handed a driving disqualification of five and a half years.

The 24-year-old, of Cambridge Grove in east Hull, was riding an off-road motorbike in Rosmead Park, near Southcoates Lane, on May 25 when he collided with Max Clark, who had been enjoying his first day out at the park with his family since lockdown began.

The 9-year-old's leg became entangled with the bike but Cawkwell did not stop and rode off.

Emergency services rushed to the scene after reports that the person driving the bike failed to stop after the crash. He was later arrested.

The crash left young Max with life-changing injuries and he had to have his leg amputated from just below the knee.

The court heard that Max "still hopes to be” a gymnast or dancer in the future.
