Jail for man who spat at and racially abused police officers

A Sheffield man who spat at and racially abused two police officers has been jailed for 24 weeks.

The officers were attempting to arrest 34-year-old Ismail Jama, for being drunk and disorderly in the street when he became aggressive, spat in their faces and hurled racially abusive threats at them.

Jama, of Pye Bank Road, pleaded guilty to two counts of assaulting an emergency worker and was jailed for 24 weeks at Sheffield Crown Court.

He was also convicted of racially aggravated public order offences and ordered to pay £50 in compensation to both officers.
