Fatal collision: Man and woman killed after car hits tree in Barnsley

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man and a woman were killed in a fatal collision in Barnsley in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Officers say that at around 1.30am, it is reported that a white Audi A5 was travelling along the A635 Huddersfield Road towards the town centre, when it struck the road kerb and collided with a tree. No other vehicles are thought to have been involved.

A 25-year-old man who was driving the car, and a 21-year-old woman who was a passenger – both from Barnsley - were pronounced dead at the scene, police say.

Their families are being supported by our specially trained officers.
