Wreckage of US military jet located after crash as search for pilot continues

The wreckage of a US military fighter jet which crashed into the North Sea on Monday 15 June has been located by search and rescue teams.

A major search operation was launched after the F-15C Eagle crashed 74 nautical miles off Flamborough Head, at around 9.40am.

Coastguard crews from Humberside, Bridlington and Scarborough have been involved in the operation.

The jet, from the 48th Fighter Wing at RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk, was on a routine training mission when it crashed.

A recovery operation is now underway following the discovery of the wreckage. But teams continue to search for the pilot.
