Victim named in Barnsley murder investigation
A man who died following a suspected serious assault in Barnsley has been named by police as Stephen Georgeson.
The 32-year-old man was taken to hospital after being found with a serious head injury in the Houghton Road area of Thurnscoe, at around 7pm on Friday 5 June. He died two days later.
Police investigating the incident have arrested six people on suspicion of murder.
Two men, aged 34, a man aged 36 and two 15-year-old boys remain in police custody. A sixth man, aged 35, has been released on bail.
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Oughton said:
South Yorkshire Police is appealing for anyone may have been in the area at the time if the suspected assault to come forward with information.
Detectives would also like to speak to anyone who saw Mr Georgeson, known locally as Squeak, in Derry Grove Park the night before the incident. The 32-year-old was found unconscious in the park, but was checked by paramedics and returned home a short time later.
Anyone who saw the victim at any point during Thursday or Friday last week, is also being encouraged to speak to the police.
