Pedestrian dies after being hit by a car pursued by police

A male pedestrian has died after he was hit by a car being pursued by police in Wakefield.

The pursuit began in East Ardsley just before 5:30pm after a Peugeot 307 failed to stop for officers.

A short time later the Peugeot and a male pedestrian on Leeds Road, Outwood were in collision.

The male pedestrian died at the scene. The driver of the vehicle suffered what are believed to be minor injuries.

A 22 year old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Due to the nature of the incident a mandatory referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
