Portrait of Captain Tom to hang at Harrogate's Army College
A portrait of fundraising hero Captain Tom Moore, has been gifted to an Army College in Harrogate. The 100-year-old veteran has become a national hero after raising £33 million for NHS charities.
The story of Captain Tom Moore, who was born in Keighley, has taken the country by storm. In the last few days he has been put forward by the Prime Minister for a knighthood, which follows fast in the footsteps of being made an honorary Colonel of the Army Foundation College in Harrogate.
Such was the inspiration of Capt Tom that Harrogate-based artist Neil Arms felt compelled to paint a portrait of him with the NHS rainbow as a backdrop.
Mr Arms said he offered the painting as a donation to the college and was overwhelmed when the Commanding Officer at the College, Lieutenant Colonel Rich Hall accepted his offer.
Lt. Col. Hall said he had been delighted and honoured to receive the portrait of Capt Tom Moore, describing it is an inspiring piece of artwork that imaginatively captures the essence of the 100-year-old and what he has done for the NHS.
The Commanding Officer of the College added: “More than that though it represents another example where our Honorary Colonel has inspired the public through his values and inspirational story."
