Four men injured in two separate shootings in Sheffield

Police have stepped up patrols in the Burngreave and Sharrow areas of Sheffield following two reported shootings in the early hours of Friday, 8 May.

Officers were called to Burngreave around midnight, after members of the public reported hearing gunshots. It is believed that shots were fired towards a group of men who were stood together in Grimesthorpe Road.

Three men suffered gunshot injuries and were taken to hospital. Their injuries are not believed to be life threatening but they remain in hospital.

At around 2am, a 53-year-old man was then shot in the arm and leg at an address in Club Garden Road, Sharrow. The man was taken to hospital and his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Sheffield’s Detective Chief Inspector said:

I understand the concern that incidents like these cause within the local community, and I would like to reassure everyone that we are doing all we can to build up a picture of the circumstances surrounding both of these incidents. The investigations are in their very early stages but please know that our enquiries are progressing at pace and we do not believe there to be any risk to the wider public. People living in these areas will see an enhanced police presence today, with house-to-house enquiries underway and cordons in place around both scenes. Extra uniformed officers will remain there over the coming days to provide reassurance and make sure everyone feels safe.
