'Homes evacuated' as fire rips through street in Hull
Two people have been arrested after 100 people were forced to leave their homes when fire ripped through a Bransholme street.
Eight fire engines were called to the scene of the fire in Stroud Crescent East after being called just after 11.30am today.
Pictures revealed the extent of the damage which included a gaping hole in the side of the row of terraced homes and one section missing its roof.
It is now believed that 100 residents who live nearby have been told to leave their homes for their own safety while members of the public are being urged to avoid the area.
Humberside Police officers were also utilised to close roads around the street which backs on to Holwell Road.
The fire service reported that as many as six homes could have been damaged by the fire but that no casualties were reported to them.
Firefighters were pictured blasting the building with their hoses from ground level and using an aerial platform to access the roof space.
Providing an update at around 1pm, a spokeswoman for the fire servicesaid:
Humberside Police confirmed today (Saturday 2 May, 2020) that two people were being questioned in connection with the fire.
It is believed up to 40 firefighters were on hand to tackle the fireat its peak.
