Police stop Yorkshire canoeists heading to Lake District

Two men from Yorkshire were stopped by police on their way to the Lake District for a canoeing trip during the coronavirus lockdown.

Cumbria's roads policing team tweeted a picture of their car, with a canoe strapped to the top, along with an appeal for people to stay at home.

They said 99 per cent of the public were complying with government instructions.

But the two men had to be escorted back to the motorway.
