This Evening and Tonight:Any wintry showers affecting western hills soon dying out to leave a dry night with increasingly clear skies developing, as winds become light. This will allow temperatures to fall with frost forming. Cloud increasing after midnight but remaining dry. Minimum temperature -2 °C.

Friday:Cloud increasing and thickening with outbreaks of rain reaching most areas during the morning. This will initially be wintry with snow on high ground and Trans-Pennine routes. Southeasterly winds freshening. Maximum temperature 7 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:Overnight rain clearing to sunshine. Further heavy rain and blustery showers arriving later on Saturday. Sunday drier with chance of showers and very windy. Showery day Monday and less windy.
