Homes and businesses have been evacuated after the River Aire at Snaith burst its banks.
Parts of the town have been cut off by flood waters, with roads impassable, as emergency services battle to protect homes and residents.
The A1041 is closed in both directions with people being urged to avoid the area.
The church in Carlton has opened its door as a rest centre for those who have been forced to leave their homes.
The lower River Aire has been causing concern since the weekend with a handful of homes reported to be flooded in nearby Hirst Courtney, on the opposite side to Snaith.
