A 25 year old man has been jailed after a jury found him guilty of causing the death of another man following an incident at a nightclub in Bingley.
Ciaran Spencer, of Green Head Drive in Keighley was sentenced to four years in prison at Bradford Crown Court yesterday Friday 10th January 2020.
Spencer had been working as a doorman at Bijou nightclub on the night of the incident in November 2017 when its believed he got into a dispute with 24 year old James Etherington over unpaid drinks.
After Spencer's sentencing James' family issued a statement paying tribute to a 'wonderful son, brother and nephew who was extremely popular with friends and work colleagues.
They said: "James was only 24 years old when his life was so cruelly taken away, he had a real zest for life and bright future ahead of him.
As a family we are completely devastated and have been left with a huge hole in our hearts. Nothing will ever compensate the loss we feel which we will have to live with for the rest of our lives.
James was so dearly loved by all who knew him and will forever be in our hearts and thoughts.”
South Yorkshire Police said the case was a tragic reminder of what can happen when excessive force is used to resolve a situation.
